There are people among us with a project in the garage who don’t even turn its engine over in the time it took Carl Powles to build his magnificent ’32 Roadster. A lifetime spent collecting parts makes the job easier, of course, as does a wealth of experience in the workshop. But just look at it… and imagine being able to say you knocked it up in four months of evenings and weekends…

Lenny Porter didn’t even spend that long on his ’34, though that was mainly because he bought it after Johnny Best had built it. Andy Murrell, on the other hand, has owned his ’62 Consul since 1994, and the project finally came to fruition this year. It was worth waiting for, though, because he’s created one of the best kustoms you’ll see this or any other day.

Rich Bratby’s F250, on the other hand, is halfway between a rat rod and a farmer-chic show truck. But mainly it’s his daily driver. Smile or loosen up.

On the events front, we’re looking back this month at Hot Rods and Hills, the BHP Show and the wonderful RPM Nationals in California. And since this is the Winter issue, we thought it would be cute to feature the Summer Nats from Santa Pod. Which it obviously wasn’t… but the Nats themselves were still a hell of a gig.
